BARBADOS: Health Ministry Extends Condolences On The Passing Of Dr. Dorothy Cooke-Johnson

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Dr. Dorothy Cooke-Johnson, advocate and former president of the Barbados Cancer Society.

Dr. Cooke-Johnson, while notably known for her work in cancer services, was also an educator and a key coordinator of many of the fundraising activities for the Cancer Society.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. The Most Honourable Kenneth George, said he remembered Dr. Cooke-Johnson as being a stalwart in advancing the national response to cancer prevention and treatment in Barbados. He further stated she worked tirelessly to expand coverage to the Barbadian population for preventative and diagnostic cancer services, particularly in the area of prostate, breast, cervical and colonic cancer.

Additionally, Co-coordinator of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, Dr. Elizabeth Ferdinand, who is also a retired Medical Officer of Health, described Dr. Cooke-Johnson as the face of the Cancer Society.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in recognizing Dr. Cooke-Johnson for her sterling work over the years, stated her legacy will live on not only through her work but also through those whose lives she touched.
