Statement by the Hon. Wilfred A. Abrahams, M.P. Minister Of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs on the passing of Sharon Christie

It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Sharon Christie, former Deputy Chairman and former Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

Ms. Christie has left us far too soon, having lost her battle to illness after a markedly courageous and admirable fight. Her willingness and dedication to serve never faltered and are deeply appreciated by this Government.

Sharon’s outstanding skills and experience in accounting and other areas of finance and corporate governance were sought after and the Corporation was fortunate to have had her professional guidance during the period that she was a member of the Board.

Sharon’s contribution in helping CBC to navigate a new course is on record and highly valued. Her appreciation for good order, her ability to focus, and her readiness to share her knowledge are some of her attributes which will be remembered and which will continue to motivate others.

Ms. Christie has served with credit on the board of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and additionally many other private sector organisations and businesses. Her absence from those institutions will most assuredly be missed.

The staff of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs and I, offer our condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Christie. May she Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.

Minister of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams
