Yesterday Saturday 13, 2024 workmen were busy removing the 175-foot lighting tower with their lights, that illuminated Kensington Oval playing field many years now.

The Kensngton Oval $50 million facelift is getting its start with replacement of the floodlights.

Two Massive Cranes owned by Crane and Equiptment Ltd and their staff was on the scene for the final time doing the removal, having already taken down the other three towers with lights.

By 6.00 am the three main personal including a highly qualified Welder was taken by the smaller of the two cranes in their ” basket” to the 175 ft portion with the lights in order to cut the bolts holding it.

The giant of the cranes was there for the crew there to harness the large set of lights to be lowered safely to the ground. After this was done the actual tower was cut at a specific length, harnesssed and lowered to the ground.

The Crane and Equiptment Ltd cranes would be back there on location in a few months as new towers and a new set of Stadium lights would be installed. It is understood that the lights would be the Hi-tech LED lights that would be the best illumination for the World Cup 2024 Cricket Finals and other earlier Games.
