There was a festive feeling in the air for the 5 th edition of Bringin’ It Home with BARP (Barbados Association of Retired Persons) Christmas Corner. With the renowned Barbados Police Service Band on the cards, the patrons gathered at Golden Square Freedom Park on Thursday night were guaranteed a good time. Known for their excellent musicianship, the band did not disappoint as they added their own signature touch to some popular Christmas carols. Whether it was incorporating a rhythmic reggae beat,
or adding some authentic Caribbean flavour, the audience was left jamming in their seats with their selections.
In her introduction MC Jennifer Walker, introduced Biggie Irie as molasses voiced and he did live up to that name. He brought his signature silk tones to tantalize patrons. For his opening number he launched into the version of Drummer Boy which he has popularised. He followed up with some soca numbers which included his title winning Nah Goin Home.
Red Plastic Bag also had the crowd rocking as he performed favourites like Boat Ride and I’m Alive. They were all dialled in for his Christmas hit Maizie, lustily helping him along with the vocals. As they danced in the aisles, it was obvious they were excited to be up close and personal with the musical maestro.
Even the specially invited guests got in on the action dancing along to his hits.
Christ Church Foundation Steel Orchestra was an absolute joy to watch. What makes them even more entertaining is the joy that they radiate when they are performing. With genuine smiles plastered on their faces coordinated with their synchronised dance moves they always manage to deliver awesome performances. Their selections which ranged from Gabby to Leadpipe pleased the audience with every beat. Director Lowrey Worrell delivered boundless energy at the front to bring the complete package
together.
Christmas in many Bajan homes is not complete without ham. Some lucky patrons who were knowledgeable with BARP trivia were gifted with the tasty treat as their reward.
The entertainment package also included Ken Farrell and Margaret Brandford dancing a jive and a
rhumba.
