BARBADOS : 16 New COVID-19 Cases Recorded

On December 22, Barbados recorded a total of 16 new COVID-19 cases; the highest single day total of positives since the beginning of the pandemic. Based on initial assessment, all cases are asymptomatic

The total number of tests performed by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory for December 22 was 1,095.  Over 64,000 tests have been conducted by the Laboratory to date.

The cases came from a variety of destinations, including the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.  In keeping with our usual protocol, all cases will be assessed at Harrisons Point.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness maintains that although these numbers have been increasing over the last two weeks, we continue to have the appropriate staffing and in patient capacity to manage these cases. 

The Ministry is conscious of the social gatherings associated with the holiday season, but wishes to appeal to the public to assist them in maintaining this level of control by complying with all Ministry of Health and Wellness directives and protocols.

Two Visitors Test Positive| DEC 23, 2020 |

Barbados recorded another two cases of COVID-19 on Monday, while six persons were released from isolation.

The new cases are a 22-year-old male visitor, who arrived on British Airways on December 19; and a 21-year-old female visitor, who came in on British Airways on December 20. Both of them were asymptomatic, and tested positive on their second tests.

Theirs were the only positive tests among the 1,455 conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. 

There are now 32 people in isolation, and 329 confirmed cases of the viral illness – 173 females and 156 males. To date, there have been 290 recoveries. The public health laboratory has completed 63,378 tests, since February.

BARBADOS: Five New Cases

Five visitors returned positive results for COVID-19 on Sunday, out of the 899 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The new cases are a 30-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man, who both arrived on British Airways on December 18; a 37-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, who both came in on British Airways on December 19; and a 41-year-old man, who arrived on American Airlines on December 19. They were all asymptomatic, and tested positive on their second tests.

One person was released from the Harrison Point isolation facility, so there are now 36 persons in isolation.

Barbados has recorded 327 confirmed cases – 172 females and 155 males. There have been 284 recoveries. Since February, the public health laboratory has completed 61,923 tests.
