The Holetown Festival takes place in Holetown, Barbados, and celebrates the anniversary of the first English settlement in Holetown on February 17, 1627. The week-long celebration occurs every year during mid-February and includes a number of activities which showcase the culture and traditions of Barbados. Events include folk singing and dancing, sports and games, street parades, markets, and food stalls that offer traditional Barbadian cuisine.

Holetown Festival 2023 was a cultural extravaganza which attracted massive crowds daily. Officially starting on the 21 st February with the Chefette & Frosteez Grand Flood Lit Tattoo and After Party, each day was packed with activities. On Sunday night the festival closed with a spectacular display of Barbadian talent. Under the title Bim Ah Come From, each of the artistes who graced the stage heralded all things Barbadian.
Actress Janine White showcased her comedic skills giving an account of the inner workings of relationships. The audience thoroughly enjoyed her presentation and were warmed up for the outstanding acts which followed.
First singer on stage was Jilisa Renee, looking resplendent in a shimmery red dress. She did Sheryl Hackett’s ever popular Beautiful and Unspoilt. This was followed by a tribute to the island’s internationally recognised superstar Rihanna. The singer’s tone was matched perfectly with the
icon’s most recent release Lift Me Up.
Next up to thrill the appreciative audience was Terencia TC Coward-Thompson. She transported attendees to another era with some of local songstress Wendy Alleyne’s greatest hits. The music lovers sang along with her as she performed Can’t Control My Emotions, Midnight Blue and He’s So
Fine. She ended her set on a high with her own popular soca track Paradise.
Also appearing on the card was SugahRhe who changed up the tempo with her party offerings of Reminisce, Sugah and Anywhere Anyway. Her dance movies captured everyone’s attention.
Among the other acts were some of the major players in the industry. Biggie Irie, Adrian Clarke, RPB and Mikey all excited their fans with their sweet selections. Collectively the seasoned performers were able to get the enthusiastic patrons out of their seats.
One performer who must be singled out is Jamal Slocombe. He provided patrons with a snapshot of who he is as an artiste giving them a phenomenal introduction to spouge with his medley of hits from that genre. His voice soared with his rendition of Mark Lord’s My Country to Me. He also showed his dynamism as a performer with Rockers and Alive.
Ambassador for the festival Damien ‘Hypasounds’ Etienne was also a part of the high calibre cast.
He pulled from his extensive repertoire of upbeat tracks to end the much-anticipated festival on an absolute high.
