The Blackman & Gollop Primary School, at Staple Grove, Christ Church, will be handed over to the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (METVT) to facilitate the return of Class Four students next month.
Minister of Education, Santia Bradshaw, said the school, which was being used as an isolation facility for COVID-19 patients by the Ministry of Health and Wellness from the end of March, this year, would once again function as an educational institution.
She made the announcement yesterday during a press conference to update the country on matters relating to education, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ms. Bradshaw also announced that Class Four students preparing for the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination, now scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, would return to the classroom from Monday, June 15, leading up to the exam.
The Minister said the process had started for the removal of equipment and also for the appropriate sanitization of the school, which will take place “over the next couple days”.
She expressed her gratitude to parents, staff and students of the school.
“I know it could not have been an easy journey knowing that your school was being used in this way by public health, but I am comfortable and satisfied that we did the right thing at the time. It was a facility that is perhaps one of the better facilities that was available at the time to the Ministry of Health and Wellness in terms of its location, in terms of being equipped to deal with things like that in a public health emergency. There will be a smooth transition in terms of the hand over to the Ministry of Education so that we can resume normal operations as it relates to education,” Ms. Bradshaw emphasized.
