The regional tourism community is mourning the loss of Hamish Watson, celebrated tourism industry veteran, and former General Manager of Cobblers Cove.
In a statement published on Sunday, Chairman of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) and the Barbados Tourism Product Authority (BTPA), Roseanne Myers, said “On behalf of the board, management and staff of the BTMI and BTPA, we join our tourism colleagues in Barbados and the Caribbean, in mourning the loss of tourism stalwart Hamish Watson who we have learnt has passed away.
“I remember Hamish well for his genteel nature and very welcoming spirit from my early days in the sector, 30 plus years ago. The gracious way he greeted everyone and the ready and charming smile was his trademark, and the fact that he hardly ever missed any tourism events the industry hosted. For many years, his name was synonymous with Cobblers Cove, and I was told that the personal interest he took in his guests, especially the repeats, made this boutique property feel like an elaborate family home to his guests.”
Watson was General Manager at Cobblers Cove for 15 years, from 1989 to 2004, before later returning home to Antigua, where he took over as Managing Director of Mill Reef Club.
“We will all remember Hamish with gratitude for his contribution as one of those who helped to build the luxury end tourism product on Barbados’ west coast. Heartfelt condolences go out to his family and industry colleagues in Barbados and in his home Antigua,” Myers said.
