Mrs. Carol Roberts Reifer – Chief Executive Office of the National Cultural Foundation, other members of management, specially invited guest, media, ladies and gentlemen – Good Morning.
My name is Kathryn Inniss and I am thrilled to stand here before you on this beautiful and blessed day as a representative of Associated Brands Industries Limited, C&S Barbados, and Sunshine Snacks, a group that is proud to be the official snack of the 2023 Barbados Crop Over Festival. This year, we are especially excited to also be the title sponsor of the Junior Kadooment Parade, an event that celebrates the creativity and vibrancy of the youth in Barbados. I am certainly looking forward to seeing the children parading in their beautiful costumes.
At Sunshine Snacks, we believe that supporting and contributing to Barbadian culture is not only important for our company, but for the wider Caribbean community as well. The Crop Over Festival is a time-honoured tradition that has been celebrated in Barbados for over 200 years, and it is a symbol of the resilience and spirit of Caribbean people. By sponsoring this event, we are not only celebrating Barbadian heritage, but also ensuring that the importance of it is recognised and passed down to future generations.
In addition to sponsoring the Junior Kadooment Parade on July 15th, we are also proud to be associate sponsors of other amazing Crop Over events. We are excited to bring the “Sunshine” to events such as Pandemonium (July 16th), Bridgetown Market, and the School Masquerade Project which comprises of over 15 schools across Barbados.
When I think of Pandemonium I think of family, music, liveliness, and sweet sweet pan. We believe that this national event showcases a high level of creativity and talent that brings to life and kickstarts the spirit of the Crop Over Festival, and we are excited to support and be a part of it.
The Bridgetown Market Street fair that showcases the best of Bajan culture, music, and cuisine is one of the events I am personally looking forward to experiencing myself. One thing I love is Bajan cuisine, so I plan to enjoy myself at this market with some BBQ pigtail and roast breadfruit. Furthermore, as associate sponsors, we will be bringing a new, exciting, and delicious snack fusion to this event – We call it the OLE LOCO. I promise it will not disappoint. And I want you all to remember the name – Say it with me OLE LOCO. And, You are in luck today! We have a little sample for you all to experience it here today.
Finally, we are proud to be the associate sponsors of the School Masquerade Project, a project that encourages young people to exercise creativity while learning about the history and culture of Crop Over. We believe that investing in the youth of Barbados is one of the best ways to ensure a bright future for our community as a region, and we are delighted to be contributing to this event.
Before I conclude, I want to take a moment to thank the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) and the organizers of the Crop Over Festival for allowing Sunshine Snacks to be a part of this renowned festival once again and for organising this outstanding presentation today. We are honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to this celebration of culture and to motivate the next generation of leaders. We look forward to working with the organizers, participants, and attendees to make this year’s festival the best one yet.
In conclusion, I am proud to say that Sunshine Snacks is more than just a snack brand. We are a company that is committed to giving back to our community, encouraging and supporting the next generations, and preserving our Caribbean culture and heritage.
Again, thank you for having us and I look forward to another vibrant, safe, and successful Crop Over Season.
