The Barbados Postal Service (BPS), over the years, has developed many services and formed partnerships in an effort to process and deliver communications, in a secure, reliable, timely and economical manner.

These services came into focus recently, when Minister of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams; Permanent Secretary, Deborah Payne; Director of Public Affairs, Pat Parris; and senior management of the BPS toured the General Post Office.

Some of the services being offered include: payment of utility bills; direct marketing – targeted distribution of flyers, brochures, catalogues and samples; e-commerce delivery – assisting businesses with their e-commerce transactions by offering ‘same day’ delivery of orders; post express courier; post office box rental; agency services – providing organisations with additional payment locations; online assistance – helping persons with their US Visa application and Barbados Passport appointment.

In a meeting with senior management staff, Minister Abrahams said he welcomed meeting with staff “in an effort to gain insight into the Postal Service and its operations”, so that he could properly represent the department as it seeks to improve and bring about change.

He stressed that feedback from staff was necessary to provide guidance on what matters needed to be addressed urgently, or in the long-term, and the aim going forward is to “streamline processes and services, while improving the face of the postal service”.

The Postmaster General, Valeta Best, pointed out that in recent years, even though the BPS had to compete with other commercial delivery services on the island, it was still the number one choice for delivery to over 90,000 households, and has the reputation for being the region’s leader in postal policy.
