Climate Change matters and the upcoming 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27) to be held in Egypt from November 6 to 18, were the focal points of discussions during a courtesy call.
The courtesy call took place between Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. The Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Ute König, this morning at the Ministry’s Culloden Road Office.
It was stressed on both ends that the time had come to close the gap between talking and implementing the necessary actions and funding required to address climate change matters.
Minister Walcott acknowledged the longstanding, friendly diplomatic relations between Barbados and Germany in his welcome to the non-resident Ambassador.
Ambassador König commended Barbados for its vocal position on matters relating to climate change and other vulnerabilities pertaining to Small Island Developing States.
Other areas discussed by the two envoys during the meeting included tourism cooperation; renewable energy; food security, air services agreement; the Global Alliance for Food Security programme, and Barbados gaining Republican status.
Also present at the meeting from the Ministry were: Permanent Secretary, Simone Rudder; Senior Foreign Service Officer, Head of Europe, Africa and Asia Division, Trecia King and Foreign Service Officer, Darren Carter.
Barbados and Germany established diplomatic relations on March 14, 1967.
