The Barbados Port Inc. (BPI) confirmed today that four of its employees have tested positive for COVID-19.
But operations at the Port of Bridgetown, currently focused on the delivery of essential and emergency cargo during this Government-mandated national pause, which runs from February 3, to February 17, are not expected to be disrupted.
In a statement issued today, the BPI gave the assurance that the requisite contact tracing was under way to identify the primary contacts of these individuals, under the guidance of officials from the Ministry of Health and Wellness. These contacts will be required to present to health authorities for testing.
In addition, immediate steps were taken to close and sanitise areas where these individuals were assigned, and management of the port has given the assurance that rigorous daily cleaning and sanitisation would continue, in accordance with recommended guidelines to minimise the risk of exposure to the virus.
“Our primary interest remains the safety of our full team, as we continue to follow all the guidelines and protocols issued by the Ministry of Health and Wellness,” the statement said.
It further outlined that the BPI had also engaged the workers’ representatives on this latest development.
