Barbadians Toni Thorne and Danielle Howell win 2020 Chevening Scholarships

The British High Commission is pleased to announce that two Barbadians – Danielle Howell and Toni Thorne, have won Chevening Scholarships this year. They join seven other scholars across the Eastern Caribbean, who received awards for 2020.
The Chevening Scholarship winners for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean were officially announced today in a news release from the British High Commission Bridgetown. Toni Thorne and Danielle Howell copped two scholarships for Barbados – joining seven other awardees across the region from Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines. British High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Mrs Janet Douglas was once again pleased to see the number of scholarships awarded to the region this year.Mrs Douglas said, “I am heartened to see that Barbados and the islands of the Eastern Caribbean have produced nine more outstanding Chevening scholars this year, replicating the same level of success from 2019.“The UK remains committed to providing top-ranked educational opportunities for future leaders across the Eastern Caribbean. If you are thinking about applying for a prestigious Chevening Scholarship, I strongly encourage you to grasp the opportunity to do so when applications open in early September.” Applications for 2021 to 2022 Chevening Scholarships will officially open on 3 September and close on 3 November 2020. The Chevening Scholarships scheme is the global scholarship programme of the British government. The Scholarships are awarded to exceptional individuals with leadership potential, enabling recipients to study one-year Masters Courses in a range of subject areas at UK universities.
The Scholarships are funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and aim to support UK foreign policy priorities by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers and decision makers.
