Barbadians are invited to recommend fellow Barbadians worthy to be elevated to the status of National Hero and to have their say on the future use of Heroes Square.

The Prime Minister’s Office is requesting members of the public to select who they believe should be added to the portfolio of this island’s 10 National Heroes.

Additionally, Government is seeking submissions on a national symbol to be erected in Heroes Square as well as the future use and redevelopment of the Square.

In the Square, there are two important memorials, the Dolphin Fountain – a tribute to the introduction of piped water to Bridgetown in March 1861, and the Cenotaph, erected in 1925 in memory of those Barbadians who lost their lives in World War I.

Recommendations should be sent in writing to the Permanent Secretary, Division of Culture, Prime Minister’s Office, Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, or by emailing pmo.culture@barbados.gov.bb, by Thursday, April 15.
