Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley – pays TRIBUTE to Dionna Browne Findlay ( pictured above ) .
Anyone who knew Dionna Browne Findlay knew she lived by the mantra, “Choice, not chance”, and while her passing today was certainly not of her choosing, there is no doubt that she held true to this belief until the very end.Dionna has left us at the still young age of 38, but her legacy of courage under fire will remain for those whom she touched, an undying source of inspiration. At the age of 19, Dionna joined the Barbados Labour Party and subsequently served across the Executive in various capacities including Secretary of the League of Young Socialists (LYS) between 2006-2014. She was recognized with the Youth Award at Annual Conference at St George Secondary School in 2013.There can be no denying that whether she was teaching in the classroom at Bay Primary School, or sitting as a student in Law School at the University of the West Indies, Dionna fought the pain of the twin illnesses that had been her uninvited companions for so long, with all her strength. In fact, her recent graduation with a law degree will forever remain a testimony to the strength of the human spirit she possessed. Throughout her illness, her eyes remained focused on the prize, the LLB.It was that same spirit of determination that characterised her internship in the law chamber of Mottley and Associates, where her interaction was also always flavoured by warmth and caring. On behalf of my father, Sir Elliott Mottley, and the others in the firm whom she touched, as well as the Government and people of Barbados, I extend deepest sympathies to her mother Andrea, father Colvin, sisters Roxanne, Amanda and Julia, brother Amando and other members of her family.
May her spirit rest in peace.
