Barbados and Suriname are continuing talks to finalize an agricultural agreement.

Recently, a delegation from Suriname, led by Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, Parmanand Sewdien, visited Barbados and held discussions with Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security, Indar Weir, at the office of the Special Envoy to Suriname, Alphea Wiggins, at Pelican Village.

The meeting follows the recent signing of the “Formation Agreement for the Strategic Dialogue and Cooperation Platform between the Government of the Republic of Suriname and the Government of Barbados”.

The two Ministers, while discussing the agriculture and fisheries component of the agreement, also examined areas of cooperation among farmers, the production of crops and transportation logistics.

In 2018, both countries signed, “The Brokopondo Agreement”. They are expected to revisit it soon, and develop a new plan for its execution.
