The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strengthened Barbados’ capacity to fight COVID-19 with a gift of several hundred testing kits, along with related supplies.
The supplies were made available to Barbados through the UAE’s Minister for International Cooperation and Development, Her Excellency Reem Al-Hashimi, this week, a testimony to the deepening relationship between the two countries.
The shipment, which also included several COVID-19 rapid test kits and personal protection equipment, was described by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley as “a clear demonstration of your support for and solidarity with the people of Barbados”.
In a letter of thanks to Minister Al-Hashimi, Ms. Mottley said: “The COVID-19 pandemic and its concomitant negative effects have touched us all and the loss of life in your country due to the novel coronavirus is deeply regretted. It is all the more poignant that even as your own country is battling this virus, you have decided to assist Barbados.
“You are truly a friend of Barbados. My Government and I are firmly of the view that this international challenge must be tackled through international cooperation and multilateralism and the expressions of support by your government are greatly appreciated.”
