Minister in the Ministry of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, Peter Phillips, today received a donation of building materials from the Roman Catholic Church in Barbados. The presentation was made at Building #7, Grantley Adams Industrial Park, Christ Church.
Father Valmond Omaris of the Roman Catholic Church, who presented the materials, disclosed that “about $30,000” in lumber and galvanise had been donated to help carry out repair work to the houses damaged during Hurricane Elsa and the freak storm.
“We’re very concerned, and wanted to help as much as possible, so the Church is always there ready and willing to help out in relief efforts and this is just one of the many ways,” he said.
Minister Phillips thanked Father Omaris for the donation, stating: “I want to particularly thank the Roman Catholic Church and Father Omaris for this generous contribution to this relief effort that we are staging and working to perform as a Government.”
He congratulated the Church for being “a good corporate citizen”, and noted that the contribution would “go a long way in helping Government”.
