Tribute to the Man and His Words is the theme of a memorial service to honour the life and work of George Lamming, OCC, CHB, which will be held at the Frank Collymore Hall, Church Village, St. Michael, on Friday, July 1. It will begin at 10:00 a.m.
President, Her Excellency The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, along with other dignitaries, are expected to attend.
Students from the George Lamming Primary School will be among those performing at the service, where attendance will be by invitation only.
On the day, two roads in Bridgetown will close from 6:00 until 11:30 a.m. They are Church Village and Polygreen Road. In addition, there will be no parking allowed in the general vicinity of Frank Collymore Hall.
Mr. Lamming, whose first novel, In the Castle of My Skin, won critical acclaim, was born on June 8, 1927, and died on June 4, 2022.
