Prime Minister Tours Harrison’s Point, St. Lucy

Work on the buildings at Harrison’s Point, St. Lucy, which will house the quarantine and isolation centre for COVID-19, is progressing smoothly and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley says it should be completed within another three weeks or so.
Ms. Mottley visited the St. Lucy site on Friday evening with Attorney General Dale Marshall and Project Manager Joseph Steinbok. At the end of the two-hour tour, she expressed satisfaction at what she had seen.
She lauded the dedication of the Barbadian workers and contractors on the job, saying that they have been diligent in the execution of their tasks. Once completed, she explained, the St. Lucy facility would significantly supplement Barbados’ quarantine capacity.
The Prime Minister stated: “Once Harrison’s Point finishes in another three weeks or so, we would have another 56 isolation beds; just about 130 or 140 beds for quarantine; the appropriate accommodation for staff and facilities for storage to accommodate a full fledge facility.”
Ms. Mottley noted that quarantine facilities had been established at the St. Lucy District Hospital and the Elayne Scantlebury Centre, at River Bay, with the capacity for 40 beds.
She stated that the Paragon Base in Christ Church has the capacity for about 250 quarantine beds. “So, we have just under 300 quarantine beds immediately available if we needed them this weekend,” she stressed.
Prime Minister Mottley added that there would be 46 isolation beds within the Isolation Facility at Enmore and the Barbados Defence Force’s Field Medical Facility when it is stood up.
