Assistance to the most vulnerable in Barbados during the COVID-19 crisis was today significantly augmented when the Plymouth Rapid Relief Team donated several already assembled care packages to the Ministry of People Empowerment & Elder Affairs (MPEA).

The packages, which comprised foodstuff, snacks and toiletries, formed part of the organization’s COVID-19 Relief programme.

The Plymouth Rapid Relief Team is the outreach arm of the Plymouth Brethren Church, which responds to national and global emergencies.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Cynthia Forde, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Ministry and all the households which will benefit from this generosity.

She stated that she was happy that non-governmental organizations, especially the faith based community, were reaching out to support the most vulnerable, particularly the elderly, as Barbados is an ageing society.

“Acts of kindness like this should always remind us that God is good all the time and that whatever we do for our brother or sister, we do it unto Him,” she said.

In response, James Emptage, a volunteer with the team, gave a brief overview of the work of the organization and pledged on-going commitment to lending support wherever it is needed in times of emergency.

Before the COVID-19 crisis, the Plymouth Rapid Relief Team was most recently deployed in Australia during the disastrous bush fires.
